Auro AMserter

Sutureless amniotic membrane support for the ocular surface

Auro AMserter is a self-retaining device designed to secure human amniotic membrane over the ocular surface without sutures, with support extending into the conjunctival fornices.

01

What is Auro AMserter?

A two-ring, self-retaining system for broad ocular-surface amniotic membrane coverage.

AMserter consists of two complementary rings that hold one or two layers of human amniotic membrane. Once assembled, the device is inserted onto the ocular surface and retained by the conjunctival fornices without sutures.

The membrane may also be draped over the lid margins where clinically appropriate, allowing coverage of the cornea, conjunctiva and fornices.

Development

Developed to simplify and stabilize broad amniotic membrane coverage of the ocular surface.

Auro AMserter was conceived by Dr. Bhaskar Ray Chaudhuri and designed and developed by Dr. Bhaskar Ray Chaudhuri, Sundar Ganesh, Krishna Chaitanya and Dr. Anirban Bhaduri.

The device is manufactured and marketed by Aurolab.

The inventors have assigned the patent rights to Aurolab and have no financial interest in the device.

How it works

Preparation and assembly of amniotic membrane within the Auro AMserter.

Amniotic membrane layout
1. Position the membrane.
Tucking the membrane
2. Tuck around the inner ring.
Snapping the rings
3. Snap the rings together.

Clinical applications

Situations in which broad amniotic membrane coverage of the ocular surface may be useful.

Acute Stevens–Johnson syndrome

Severe acute ocular-surface involvement with epithelial denudation where early amniotic membrane treatment is indicated.

Chemical injury

Acute ocular chemical burns requiring coverage of the cornea, conjunctiva and fornices.

Thermal injury

Acute thermal injury where extensive ocular-surface amniotic membrane support is appropriate.

Persistent epithelial defects

Selected cases where sustained amniotic membrane contact with the corneal surface is desired.

Clinical use should be determined by the treating ophthalmologist in accordance with the Instructions for Use, clinical judgement and applicable institutional protocols.

Clinical evidence

Documentation of real-world clinical experience and outcomes.

A multicentre clinical series is being developed to document Auro AMserter use in acute ocular-surface disease, including its role in preventing conjunctival cicatrisation and symblepharon.

Participating surgeons are being contacted separately through the study data-collection process. This website does not collect patient clinical data.
